Can I enter Rus. before the intended travel dates listed on my visa application?

I haven't applied for my visa yet. I have a flight reservation to Russia on February 1st but I would like to change my flight reservation to January 15th if (only if) I get my visa before January 15th. Can this be done? Or is my visa only good for the dates listed on my flight reservation? Please tell me how (if it is possible).

Your visa is valid for the dates you apply, regardless of the dates of your flights. You must try to ensure that the dates of your flights fall within the validity period of the visa.
